The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has documented 57 violations of the right to life between December 2024 and December 2025. Most of the deaths occurred in June and July 2025, a period marked by widespread civic unrest across the country.

Several cases shocked the nation, including the brutal killing of human rights defender Richard Raymond Otieno in Elburgon on January 19, 2025, and the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Bridgit Njoki Wainaina in Kiambu County.

Other tragic incidents included the murder of 17-year-old refugee Gaala Aden Abdi from Dadaab Refugee Camp.

Five people were shot and killed in Ang’ata Barikoi, Narok County, on April 28, 2025, while teacher and blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang died while in police custody in June 2025. There was also the shooting to death of Joshua Steven Nderitu by police during a protest in Nairobi on May 20, 2025.
