Legislators and the public are now preparing to attend the address, which provides an opportunity for the President to outline government priorities and policy directions for the coming year.
The National Assembly and Senate will convene for a special sitting on Thursday, November 20, 2025, to receive an annual address from President William Ruto.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the session, scheduled to start at 2.30 pm, will take place in the National Assembly Chamber at the Main Parliament Building in Nairobi.

According to the official notice signed by the Speakers of both houses, Moses Wetang’ula (National Assembly and Amason Kingi (Senate), “Members of Parliament and the general public are hereby notified that a Special Sitting of Parliament shall be held in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Building, Nairobi, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2.30 pm.”
The sitting follows the procedures set out in Standing Order 22(2) of the National Assembly and Standing Order 25(2) of the Senate, which require MPs to be informed about the date, time, and place of any special parliamentary session convened under the Constitution.
Legislators and the public are now preparing to attend the address, which provides an opportunity for the President to outline government priorities and policy directions for the coming year.
The State of the Nation address is delivered in accordance with Article 132 (1) of the Constitution, which provides for the President to address a special sitting of Parliament once every year and may address Parliament at any other time.
“Once every year, the President is expected to report, in an address to the nation, on all the measures taken and the progress achieved in the realisation of the national values, referred to in Article 10 and submit a report for debate to the National Assembly on the progress made in fulfilling the international obligations of the Republic,” states the Article.
Ruto addressed Parliament last year on November 24, 2024, at a time when former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had been impeached.
This year’s address comes at a time when there are worrying trends of Kenyan activists being arrested and detained in other East African states.
The address will also come a month after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whose death remains a big blow to Kenyans and people in the political divide.
The Head of State is further expected to submit a report for debate to the National Assembly on the progress made in fulfilling the international obligations of the Republic.
President Ruto is expected to, among other things, address measures taken to achieve national security and national values.
He is also expected to highlight the achievements of his administration, which has been in leadership for three years now.
