Senator Omtatah appoints Hanifa Adan, 9 others to help explore 2027 presidential bid
The Senator announced that the team would assess the viability of his candidacy for the upcoming General Election.
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has taken a significant step toward a potential 2027 presidential campaign by appointing a 10-member Presidential Exploratory Committee.
In a Gazette Notice dated November 22, the Senator announced that the team would assess the viability of his candidacy for the upcoming General Election.

The Committee, chaired by Mary Kathomi Riungu, is tasked with delivering a comprehensive assessment of Omtatah's prospects. Riungu will oversee the group's activities, with Charles ole Kabaiku serving as her deputy.
Among the notable appointees is activist Hanifa Adan, who will serve as the Public Relations/Media Consultant. Hanifa is expected to manage public relations and facilitate effective media communication.
“This is an opportunity to help steer a campaign based on the needs of the people. I look forward to ensuring clarity and transparency in all our communications,” she said.
David John Bwakali will provide political insights as the Political and Grassroots Strategist, while Victor Kipng’etich will take on the role of Legal Advisor to ensure compliance with electoral laws. Jude Ogulla, the analytical lead, will conduct opinion polls and analyse public sentiments to guide the team's strategies.
The Committee also includes Purity Ndambuki and Emmanuel Baraka as Joint Secretaries, Kevin Migwe Kimwatu as Spokesperson, and Engineer Julius Okara as Patron.
The Committee’s mandate extends for 18 months, after which it will dissolve, depending on Omtatah’s decision to formally run or withdraw.
Potential bid
In July, Senator Omtatah, during a discussion on X Spaces, opened up about his potential bid for the presidency in 2027. While he stopped short of confirming his candidacy, Omtatah provided insight into the principles and conditions that would guide such a decision.
“The answer is, why not? But I will not run for president because I want to be president but because the people think I am the best driver of the vehicle they have invented,” he said, indicating that his decision would hinge on the people's collective will rather than personal ambition.
Omtatah stressed the necessity of grassroots support and a unified movement with clear goals, stating that he could not make the leap alone.
"If there is a clear vehicle that wants to change the direction of this country, and people believe I am the best driver, I will have a duty to do so," he explained.
He reiterated that his decision would come at the appropriate time, refusing to rule out the possibility of entering the race.
“But we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Nothing is ruled out; everything is possible,” he said, adding a compelling metaphor: “When we are at war, you don’t leave the battle to soldiers. War is never won by soldiers but by the general people who rise behind them.”
