Rwanda Automobile Club joins global motorcycle governing body FIM

Rwanda Automobile Club has been admitted to the global motorcycle body FIM, giving Rwanda access to sanctioned events, competitions and technical support, as FIM membership rises to 125 federations.

Rwanda has officially joined the international motorcycling family, with the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC) gaining affiliation to the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) during the 2025 FIM General Assembly on December 5.

The FIM is the world body that governs motorcycle sport, setting rules, safety standards, and overseeing competitions in more than 125 countries. It organises world championships in disciplines like road racing and motocross, while also supporting rider development.

Rwanda's inclusion gives the country access to FIM-sanctioned events, international competitions and technical support, boosting the development of motorcycling sport in the country.

The Assembly, attended by representatives of 85 National Federations, also approved the affiliation of Paraguay, Korea, and Algeria, bringing the total number of FIM member federations to 125.

"The affiliations of the Federación de Motociclismo de Paraguay (FEMOP), the Federation of Motorcycle Sport - Korea (FOMS), the Fédération Algérienne des Sports Mécaniques (FASM) and the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC) were approved," said FIM.

The Assembly also featured the inauguration of the Racing Motorcycle Museum and the 2025 FIM Awards, celebrating the year's world champions and top performers in motorcycle sport.

"The inauguration of the museum, to be managed by the International Foundation for Motorcycling (IFM), besides the first-ever induction ceremony to the FIM Hall of Fame, will take place in the presence of the 2025 World Champions," said FIM in a statement.

The Assembly also confirmed the appointment of six new International Judges (LJI), including David Chu, Achilles Damen, Peter Davis, Niall Geaney, Josep Francesc Vandellós Alamilla, and Elena Zucconi Galli Fonseca, who will oversee FIM competitions worldwide

During the Assembly, FIM President Jorge Viegashighlighted the federation's strong financial position and support for its member federations.

"Harmonising statutes across federations ensures all members share common goals while respecting national contexts," he said, stressing the importance of clear governance and shared standards.

The meeting also highlighted FIM's broader initiatives, including programs for women in motorsport, sustainability campaigns, and enhanced safety measures such as the first-ever Concussion Guidelines.
