Major Nairobi roads to experience phased closures from June 2026 to February 2027 for major construction works

Sections of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road, and Jakaya Kikwete Road will be partially closed from Friday, June 12, 2026, to Friday, February 12, 2027, a period of eight months.
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a series of partial road closures in Nairobi affecting several roads to allow ongoing construction works.
In a notice, the authority said sections of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road, Jakaya Kikwete Road, Haile Selassie Avenue and Ngong Road will be affected at different periods to facilitate infrastructure upgrades while maintaining road user safety and reducing traffic disruptions.

The authority explained that the closure will allow the contractor to undertake bridge construction works while ensuring the safety of road users and minimising traffic disruptions. Motorists have been urged to use alternative routes and follow guidance from traffic police officers and marshals to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The authority also announced that a section of Haile Selassie Avenue will be partially closed from Friday, June 12, 2026, to Monday, October 12, 2026, covering a period of four months.
According to KURA, the closure is necessary to facilitate bridge construction works while ensuring safety for road users and minimising traffic disruptions. Road users have been advised to use alternative routes and comply with instructions from traffic police and marshals.

KURA also confirmed that Ngong Road will experience a partial closure from Thursday, June 11, 2026, to Thursday, June 18, 2026, lasting one week. The closure will allow contractors to install twin cross culverts along Ngong Road, specifically at the section between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road.
Motorists have been urged to follow the designated diversion routes and to adhere to directions provided by traffic police and marshals.
KURA said all the works are "aimed at improving road infrastructure while ensuring safer and more efficient urban transport systems," under its continued effort to transform urban mobility.
