Authorities in Kisumu have unveiled a six-point plan to curb goonism and strengthen security, including a ban on the use of private security personnel at political rallies following a Joint County Security Committee meeting.
The directive was announced on Wednesday following a Joint County Security Committee meeting co-chaired by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and County Commissioner Ramadhan Mwabudzo, which brought together national and county security agencies to address emerging security concerns.
The measures include a crackdown on criminal gangs posing as security personnel, joint operations targeting criminal elements in the matatu sector, the installation of floodlights and HD CCTV cameras in strategic areas, and the reactivation of the Kisumu County Rapid Response Team.
The county will also establish village and neighbourhood security committees and strengthen community policing and intelligence gathering to improve crime prevention and enhance public safety.
