The Kenyan Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, has issued a public advisory warning Kenyans against a growing wave of scams targeting travellers, students and job seekers heading to Indonesia.
In the advisory released on Thursday, the mission cautioned against fake job offers, fraudulent recruitment agencies, false scholarship opportunities, bogus business and investment schemes, fake visa services and online scams promising easy entry or employment in Indonesia.
The embassy urged Kenyans to verify all employment, study and business opportunities through official channels, confirm the authenticity of travel documents and visas, and contact the embassy whenever in doubt before travelling.

It also reminded visitors that foreigners who overstay their permitted stay in Indonesia face fines of IDR 1,000,000 (approximately Sh8,000) per day, alongside possible detention, deportation and future entry restrictions.
“Don’t be deceived. Verify before you travel,” the embassy said.
The advisory comes as Kenyan authorities have increasingly warned of transnational recruitment scams across Southeast Asia.
Victims are often lured with promises of lucrative jobs before being trafficked into cybercrime compounds or subjected to exploitation.
Indonesia has also become an increasingly popular destination for Kenyan students and tourists, prompting the embassy to encourage greater vigilance before departure.
