Revealed: Fresh plot to strip Sifuna of Senate Deputy Minority Whip position
Sifuna’s removal has been catalysed by his declaration that he cannot work closely with Oburu, explaining that he could not serve as party.

The Eastleigh Voice has established that, to curb Sifuna’s growing political influence under the party’s Linda Mwananchi faction, Ruto’s loyalists within the broad-based government are planning his ouster after the outspoken senator was recently ejected from the Energy Committee.
A source revealed that the ODM is preparing to write to Speaker Amason Kingi seeking the senator’s removal as the Deputy Minority Whip of the House.

"Very soon you will see him out of the party. It is not fair to bite the hand that feeds you. We want him to join the enemies of the government without the privileges the minority leadership position gives him," said the source, who is well versed in Senate leadership intrigues.
If the plan to remove Sifuna succeeds, he could lose influence within the House and the privileges that have propelled his political growth. As the Deputy Minority Whip, he receives a gross monthly salary of approximately Sh768,000 to 784,000.
Beyond basic pay, he enjoys substantial perks including a Sh50,000 monthly housing allowance, official transport, state-backed car loans and mortgages, comprehensive medical cover, and robust security detail.
He is also entitled to an official vehicle for legislative and administrative duties and is eligible to claim mileage and car maintenance stipends. The medical cover includes comprehensive health insurance for the senator, one spouse, and up to four dependent children.
Sifuna has access to subsidised state-backed car loans of up to Sh8 million and mortgages of up to Sh35 million at a 3 per cent annual interest rate. He also benefits from dedicated office support, including researchers, legal counsel, fiscal analysts, and personal assistants.
For his security, he is accorded mandatory police escorts and dedicated bodyguards.
Sifuna’s removal has been catalysed by his declaration that he cannot work closely with Oburu, explaining that he could not serve as party secretary-general under what he described as “mediocrity”.
On Tuesday, Sifuna and his Linda Mwananchi allies described the latest move by the ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) as unconstitutional and vowed to challenge it through legal channels.
In a statement read by Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, the faction accused the party leadership of repeating the same mistakes that led to the earlier removal being overturned by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
"Late last evening, we were made aware of the decision of the ODM NEC purporting, for the second time, to remove Sifuna from office. On the face of it, the decision is similar to the one made in February, which was unfair and unconstitutional," Omondi said.
The faction maintained that the latest decision was legally flawed and expressed confidence that the courts would once again rule in Sifuna’s favour.
"We are convinced to test the propriety of the purported ouster in court because we believe it should suffer the same fate as the February ouster," Omondi added.
According to the Oburu Oginga-led party, the decision followed recommendations by its Internal Disputes Resolution Committee, which investigated complaints against Sifuna.
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has, meanwhile, urged the party to seize the official car accorded to Sifuna, accusing him of openly defying party leadership while still enjoying its privileges.
Alai previously called on the party’s youth to act and reclaim Sifuna’s official vehicle.
"ODM security should be sent to seize the official car Sifuna is using and bring it to the party headquarters. How do you insult, mock and belittle the party leader and still sit there enjoying the party trappings of power? Don’t we have an ODM security team? ODM youth must pounce on these fools and get back party property,” Alai said.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has also urged ODM to strip Sifuna of his Senate leadership over what he terms betrayal of the political outfit.
Kaluma highlighted how the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ousted Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, contrasting this with ODM’s continued accommodation of the Senate Minority Whip, whom he accuses of corruption and betrayal.
The MP recalled how UDA decisively removed Khalwale from his Senate Majority Whip post after his conduct was deemed inappropriate during the Malava by-election in November 2025.
To Kaluma, that move demonstrated political firmness and respect for party values. He contrasted this with what he described as ODM’s reluctance to act against its senior figures, despite persistent accusations of disloyalty, amid claims of working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
The legislator further questioned why ODM would retain, in such a powerful position, an individual he labelled a “corrupt traitor” who, in his view, contributes nothing to the party’s agenda. Sifuna has been on the receiving end since the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga in October 2025.
"UDA kicked Khalwale out of the Senate leadership position when he took his jokes too far. What is ODM still doing with this corrupt traitor, who adds nothing to the party? Kick him out of the Senate Leader position he holds!” he posed.
