Waqf Commission selection enters next stage as panel shortlists 35 candidates

The process of appointing members of the Waqf Commission, a key body responsible for the management and administration of Islamic charitable endowments in Kenya, has moved to the next stage after the Selection Panel released the names of 35 shortlisted candidates.
The panel said it received 148 applications following a public advertisement for eight vacancies. “The Selection Panel reviewed the applications and shortlisted the following candidates,” the panel said in a notice.
The shortlisted candidates include Abdi Ibrahim Abdi from Wajir, Abdulrahman Manswab Mahsen from Mombasa, Abubakar Zubeir Athman from Lamu, Ahmed Ahmed Omar from Kilifi and Ali Abdullah Ibrahim from Machakos.

Others are Asman William Shariff from Trans Nzoia, Aydaroos Muhsin Sayyid Ali from Lamu, Bajaber Ahmed Said Salimu from Kitui, Chui Khadijah Gatie from Tana River and Diriye Ahmed Mohamed from Wajir.
The panel also shortlisted Dr Jadeed Moza Ally from Mombasa, Dugow Musa Ibrahim from Wajir, Godana Abdu Dae from Lamu, Hache Hassan Issack from Mandera, Haji Ramla Abdullahi Issack from Mandera and Hamadi Yaye Shosi from Kilifi.
Other candidates on the list are Kasmani Asiya Saleem from Mombasa, Mabruk Khamis Rizik from Kilifi, Mahamud Mahat Abdi from Wajir, Mohamed Abdisalam Sheikh from Garissa, Muhamed Talib Bwana from Mombasa and Muhumed Mohamud Sheikh from Wajir.
The remaining shortlisted candidates are Mutubwa Hassan Mohamed from Kitui, Mwalimu Abuu Mohamed from Lamu, Dr Mwamburi Adam Hamisi from Taita Taveta, Mwatsefu Juma Mwarika from Kwale, Dr Omar Rashid Ali from Wajir and Dr Omari Hassan Kinyua from Embu.
The list further includes Ramadhan Odhiambo Abdul from Homa Bay, Dr Salim Islam Mohamed from Mombasa, Sheikh Ismail Musa Hajimala from Kisumu, Sheikh Issack Nabila Ibrahim from Wajir, Sumba Hassan Rajab from Mombasa, Swaleh Feisal Hussein from Embu and Zainabu Zuwena from Nairobi.
The Muslim Community has now been invited to submit, in writing, any information of interest concerning any of the shortlisted candidates within 14 days.
The panel said the submissions from members of the Muslim Community should be addressed to the Chairperson, Selection Panel for the Appointment of Members of the Waqf Commission, at the 20th Floor, CBK Pensions Towers, Harambee Avenue, P.O. Box 40112-00100, Nairobi.
The information can also be submitted through the email address waqf.recruitment2026@ag-go.ke.
The Selection Panel stated that all hard copy submissions should be sealed and marked “confidential”.
“The Selection Panel may interview any person who has submitted information on a candidate,” reads the notice.
Waqf refers to the permanent donation of assets such as land, buildings or other property for Muslim religious, social or charitable purposes without the intention of reclaiming them.
The Waqf Commission is established to safeguard these endowments by ensuring proper administration, accountability and compliance with the law.
Under the Waqf Act, 2022, the commission is mandated to register all Awqaf in the country, manage Waqf properties and supervise their effective use.
The commission will consist of a chairperson and six members appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning on the recommendation of the Muslim community, alongside representatives from key government offices.
The selection panel appointed by the Attorney General is responsible for identifying candidates who will be considered for appointment to the commission.
