"To the graduating class, education, I firmly believe, is the most empowering tool we possess. It not only equips individuals to fend for themselves but also enables them to comprehend and positively impact society."

Kenyan marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has commended Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for bestowing upon him an Honorary Doctorate Degree in recognition of his remarkable accomplishments.

Kipchoge was bestowed with a Doctor of Human Letters (L.H.D) on December 1, 2023, during the 41st Graduation Ceremony. This prestigious honour is one of the four honorary doctorate accolades reserved for individuals who have significantly contributed to society, without the obligation of attending classes or submitting a thesis.

Expressing his gratitude, Kipchoge stated, "It is a great honour to receive the Award of Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) by Jomo Kenyatta University. I am proud and humbled to receive this recognition for what I consider to be my small efforts in advancing humanity and societal progress through the work of the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation."

In his message, Kipchoge articulated a personal commitment to further elevate efforts in supporting education systems and environmental causes, both in Kenya and abroad. He called on everyone to contribute to a better world, promote the significance of quality education, and advocate for environmental stewardship.

Highlighting the transformative power of education, Kipchoge conveyed, "To the graduating class, education, I firmly believe, is the most empowering tool we possess. It not only equips individuals to fend for themselves but also enables them to comprehend and positively impact society."

The honorary degree is not just a personal honour for Kipchoge but also catalyzes for him to enhance his commitment to the betterment of himself, his nation, and the global community as an alumnus of JKUAT. Inspired by this recognition, Kipchoge expressed his dedication to philanthropic endeavours, particularly in supporting the education of underprivileged children and establishing accessible libraries in remote areas.
