This year, however, she has organised a 160-kilometre walk to raise funds for the construction of the Darul Kheir Community Centre in her mission to support the education of orphans and children coming from poor backgrounds.
"This walk comes as a dire need for the Mukuru community to have a centre that will hold all their projects. We invite everybody who is a believer in a community and change to join us," Aisha told The Eastleigh Voice.
The walk will start on Monday from South B, through Mlolongo and Bisili and will end at Namanga along the Kenya-Tanzania border.
Carwash Fundraisers
According to Aisha, the fundraiser dubbed "Iftar Carwash Fundraiser" is not just about washing cars but making a meaningful impact for a good cause.
"By combining giving back with practical service, we were able to raise funds to feed 800 families during Ramadan," she highlighted the significance of the corporate social responsibility exercise.
She says such events allow her community centre to add value to their donor pool by providing them with a tangible service in return for their contribution.
"It's heartwarming to see the community come together for such a purposeful initiative,” she added.
The car washing events have been held at Al Huda Mosque Carwash in South B and Bubble Car Wash in South C Next to Memon Estate opposite Rubi Estate.
Darul Kheir Community Center
Darul Kheir is grounded on a Madrassa Programme in Fuata Nyayo in Mukuru Slums.
The registered community organisation was founded in 2016. 'Darul' and 'Kheir' are Arabic words that can be loosely translated to mean 'The Home Of Good Fortune.'
The organisation places a strong focus on religious relevance and programmatic sustainability.
“Our mission is informed by the desire to better manage the nexus between sustainable development and urbanisation challenges in the informal settlements where we dispense our practices,” the organisation explains.
The centre has over the years implemented a vast spectrum of activities to improve the living standards of children, youths and women living in the Mukuru slums.
These activities include; the Madrassa programme and others targeting orphans and more vulnerable children, vocational training such as tailoring and youth skills development and mentorship, enterprise development training and food programmes.
"Darul Kheir was established by the need for a comprehensive community-based program to care for children, youth, women, and their families. It promotes equitable community development and women's literacy, strengthening peace and solidarity in Urban Informal Settlement Areas,” Aisha emphasised.
