Taita Taveta to have two new land registries for faster title deed issuance, DP Kindiki says

The new registries are part of the government's broader effort to address land ownership issues in Taita Taveta.

In a bid to tackle persistent land issues in Taita Taveta County, the government has announced the establishment of two new land registries in Taveta and Voi.

This move, according to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, is aimed at simplifying land access for residents and reducing the need for long-distance travel to land offices, which is a major challenge for many in the region.

Speaking during the issuance of title deeds in Njukini on Tuesday, Kindiki explained that the creation of these new registries would make it easier for locals to access land services without having to travel far from their homes.

"The government is going to gazette immediately two new land registries in Taita Taveta. The first registry will be in Taveta, and another will be in Voi," Kindiki said, noting that the move would greatly benefit residents who currently face long journeys to land offices in other parts of the county.

The new registries are part of the government's broader effort to address land ownership issues in Taita Taveta, where much of the land is occupied by national parks, ranches, and large estates.

Many residents are left with small, fragmented pieces of land, and the creation of these registries is expected to ease their access to official land services.

The Deputy President distributed 1,301 title deeds to residents as part of an ongoing effort to secure land ownership.

This is part of a larger initiative to issue 3,545 titles covering six settlement schemes in the county.

The issuance of these deeds is part of the government's commitment to resolving long-standing land disputes and promoting land ownership among Taita Taveta residents.

In addition to improving land access, the government is also working to enhance infrastructure in the county.

Kindiki said there are plans to build better markets for farmers and improve road networks to boost trade and economic activity.
