Speaking to The Eastleigh Voice, County Chief of Staff Noah Akala revealed that soon after the abduction, a city lawyer contacted the county administration, demanding Sh15 million by the end of the day.
According to Akala, the sum was purportedly linked to an unverifiable debt dating back to the days of the municipal council, with the lawyer insinuating that the payment would secure the CECM's release.
“Mombasa has taken a tough stance on payment of unverifiable pending bills that have occasioned a backlash from crooks who are in the line of creating fictitious bills and dating the same back to municipal days. They thereafter abuse the legal process to compel government agencies to pay. This is a simple case of corruption fighting back and the County Government of Mombasa will not relent,” said Akala.
Asked on how they knew the individuals were police officers, Akala stated they managed to speak with the CECM.
“Yes, we spoke with him. He is resolute. When he confronted them, they said as much,” Akala stated.
