NTSA revokes 64 Sacco licences, warns commuters against using their services

The significant move comes as part of the authority's ongoing efforts to enforce safety and regulatory standards within the public transport sector.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revoked 64 Sacco licences belonging to several Public Transport Operators (PTO).

In an alert on Thursday, the Authority urged commuters to refrain from boarding vehicles operated by the affected Saccos and companies, citing potential inconveniences and safety concerns.

“The National Police Service (NPS) has been advised to impound vehicles belonging to the Saccos/Companies found operating following the revocation of their licences,” the Authority said.

The significant move comes as part of the authority's ongoing efforts to enforce safety and regulatory standards within the public transport sector.

Telaviv Travellers Limited, which operates on Eastleigh, South B, Likoni, Gikomba, Jogoo Road, Outering Road, and Fedha, was among the Saccos whose licences were cancelled.

The license for Pinpoint Solutions [K] Ltd also operating along Eastleigh, Kayole, Komarocks, Molem and Juja Road was also revoked.

Others include; Eldora Travellers Ltd, Famwena Ankuma, Tujijenge Pamoja Company Ltd, Methana Shuttle Ltd, Tiwamba Dricon Sacco Ltd, Nego International Ltd, Manama Travellers Ltd, Migori Town Matatu Sacco Ltd, Drips Shuttle Ltd, London Prestige Sacco, New Rukawest Company Ltd, 2 NRE Sacco Ltd, 16 Katta Sacco and Southleigh Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Ltd.

Last month, the Authority initiated an inspection for drunk driving, speed checks, and verification of licenses and other documents on all major highways.

The Authority emphasised that the measure aims to underline road safety for all users, adding that officers will also crack down on commercial vehicles for overloading and look for unauthorised Passenger Service Vehicles (PSVs).

NTSA Director General George Njao called on motorists across the country to be cautious amid the ongoing rainy season which creates potentially dangerous conditions for road users.

“We advise motorists to reduce their speed since these deposits lead to the formation of slippery surfaces making stopping more difficult thus raising the possibility of losing control. We have witnessed cases of motorists driving through flash floods, flooded roads, and flooded riverbeds,” Njao said.
