Last week, the homicide detectives probing the triple murder said they had identified Hashim as the prime suspect and shared his image, appealing for anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to share it with the police.
"Investigations conducted so far have established that Hashim Dagane, 24, was driving the Nissan Note (Reg. No. KDQ 718Y) car captured on CCTV cameras picking the victims from their Eastleigh home on October 21, 2024, hours before their bodies were discovered scattered at various locations. The vehicle was also found abandoned at Wakulima Market near Ena Coach stage and towed to DCI Headquarters for forensic examination, further linking Hashim Dagane to the killings," the DCI said in a post on X.
Hashim is alleged to be a former police officer from Ethiopia who fled his country after the murder of his wife.
After arriving in Nairobi, he set up a taxi business, operating in Eastleigh and Parklands.
Investigators believe the suspect may have known the victims as preliminary findings suggest the victims were murdered following a dispute over ransom demands.
The three Waris (38), Amina (22), and Nusayba (12) went missing and their bodies were discovered with stab wounds the following morning in different locations including Bahati in Makadara, 6th Avenue Parklands, and Khyumbi in Machakos, with Waris's hands severed.
Further, on October 23, two human hands were found on Five-Star Road in South C.
A post-mortem revealed signs of severe torture, with Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor confirming that Waris was strangled and her hands amputated, while Amina died from a stab wound that punctured her heart.
"The stab wound went to the heart. We believe she died out of stabbing," Oduor said.
