The CS briefed President William Ruto at the Eldoret State Lodge this morning before releasing the much-anticipated results.

Results for over 4,000 students who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams have been withheld due to alleged irregularities.

Education Cabinet Secretary CS Ezekiel Machogu on Monday, January 8, 2024, while releasing the results at Moi High School in Eldoret, said results for 4,113 students were withheld.

Of these, the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) has cancelled results of four cases of reported impersonation after completing investigations.

"The results of the remaining 4,109 candidates who were suspected to have engaged in examination irregularities have been withheld pending the completion of investigations into their cases, within a period of 20 days from today," Machogu said.

"The Council is empowered by law, as provided in the Kenya National Examination Council (Handling of Examination Irregularities) Rules of 2015, Legal Notice No. 132 of 2015, Rule 8 to withhold the results of any candidate or examination centre suspected to have been involved in an examination irregularity or malpractice pending the completion of investigations."

The CS said 120 contracted professionals were reported to have been involved in aiding examination malpractices warning that firm disciplinary action will be taken against the teachers.

KCSE candidates are required to log in to KNEC portal, enter their index number and name as per the registration data and click submit to access results. There will be no SMS transmission.

The Kenya National Examination Council also revealed that there was no leakage (early exposure) in last year’s KCSE exams.
