Assistant Coach Mohamed Abdikadir of Lyon 04 FC reflected on the team's challenging journey, stating, "It hasn't been easy to reach this far, as the tournament has been really competitive from the grassroots level."
The regional champions stand to win KES. 250,000 and a ticket to represent the region in the national finals slated for April. The runners-up will receive KES. 150,000, while individual awards await the Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, and Most Valuable Player (both boys and girls), each receiving KES. 30,000.
Furthermore, all players from both winning and runner-up teams will be rewarded with Neon Smartphones, the first locally assembled 4G smartphones in Kenya.
Before the Saturday match, player and coach clinics will be held in the morning, focusing on various aspects of the tournament. Safaricom has introduced GPS Sports Vests to aid player scouting and profile building with globally recognized metrics.
These upcoming matches follow successful grassroots, sub-county, and county knockout games across Wajir, Garissa, and Mandera counties, involving 286 teams at the ward level.
Safaricom Chapa Dimba aims to provide a structured platform for scouts and coaches to unearth new talent and establish feeder systems for Kenyan football leagues. The tournament targets footballers aged between 16 and 20 years old, with an additional aim to train 250 coaches.
