The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has officially declared that the much-discussed elections will occur this year.

The decision was finalized during a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Goal Project office in Kasarani, Nairobi.

During the meeting, the committee opted to proceed with the upcoming elections utilizing the contentious FKF Electoral Code (2020), with plans for amendments slated during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for March 16, 2024. This announcement has triggered varied reactions among football stakeholders nationwide.

The NEC jump-started the process for the FKF elections in 2024 by confirming that the elections will adhere to the FKF Electoral Code (2020), aiming to ensure consistency and transparency in the electoral process. FKF Secretary General Barry Otieno conveyed this decision in a statement.

The meeting also unveiled a roadmap for the elections, attracting interest from notable personalities such as former FKF president Sam Nyamweya, Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed, former Harambee Stars midfielders Sammy Owino ‘Kempes’ and McDonald Mariga, Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla, and former Nyanza NEC member Tom Alila. All these candidates present potential challenges to FKF President Nick Mwendwa, currently in his second term.

Furthermore, the NEC endorsed the calendar for all national teams, including Harambee Stars and Starlets, while approving the FKF's 2024 budget.
