"In 2018, the government introduced a system of centralised purchase of books. As such, all books going to public schools are acquired centrally by the government and given free of charge to each learner," noted Kiarie.
He further revealed that more than 85 per cent of the textbooks have already been delivered to learners in public primary schools with the remaining set to be distributed within this week.
"The exercise has been ongoing throughout December and we can confidently say that by Monday, January 13, 2025 all public schools will have CBC textbooks for grade 9," he added.
According to Kiarie, the books are being distributed by more than 10 publishers including Kenya Literature Bureau, East African Educational Publishers, and Hummingbird Publishers.
The association also assured parents seeking to buy grade 9 textbooks that they would find them at stores countrywide.
The transition to grade 9 earmarked for this year is set to eliminate Form One admissions in Kenyan Schools for the first time since the advent of the 7-4-2-3 system in 1964.
Moreover, the last Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams are set to be done in 2027 by the current Form 2 students marking an end to the 8-4-4 system that has been in operation since its inauguration in January 1985 by President Moi.
Under the new arrangement, grade 9 or Junior Secondary learners will sit for an end-year exam determining their entry into Senior Secondary Schools.
