Mombasa locals to receive Good Conduct certificates in 24 hours at ASK Show

Mombasa residents can now get their police clearance certificates in just 24 hours.

The National Police Service announced that they are offering speedy service at their stand during the Mombasa ASK Show 2024, which started on Sunday and will run until Sunday, September 7, 2024.

At the police stand, as explained by NPS on Monday, one will not only receive the Good Conduct certificate but also get valuable insights from various police departments.

" You can also access comprehensive information and explanations from a team of experts from the Kenya Police Service, the Administration Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Internal Affairs Unit," the statement reads.

David Njagi, Director of Planning, Administration, and Finance at NPS Headquarters, is leading the police team at the Mombasa ASK Show.

He also serves as the chairman for the National Police Service's ASK Show 2024.

Upgrade system

In June, the government announced an upgrade to the Police Clearance Certificate system, also known as the Certificate of Good Conduct.

This upgrade is aimed to reduce processing time from 14 days to just one day. The change will help clear the backlog and match daily applications with processed certificates.

The upgrade follows a contract signing on Tuesday between the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and M/S Idemia Southern and Eastern Africa Limited.

The new system was meant to transition from the Automated Palm and Fingerprint Identification System (APFIS) to the Multi Biometric Identification System (MBIS).

Director of the DCI, Mohamed Amin, explained that this upgrade addresses public concerns about delays in processing Police Clearance Certificates (PCC).

"The new system, MBIS will improve the processing speed of the certificates from the initial 14 days to one day, thus effectively contributing to the clearance of the backlog while also matching the corresponding number of applications to those processed in a day," he said.

The new system was fully bolstered to support livescans of the PCC applications in 52 Huduma Centres across the Country, at the DCI Headquarters and police stations.

This feature will also tremendously reduce paperwork in the whole process of acquisition of a Police Clearance Certificate.

Moreover, while the old system was only able to store two million criminal records, the new system has a storage capacity of up to 10 million, the managers said.
