Former Starehe MP aspirant and activist Boniface Mwangi has been fined Sh300,000 for contempt of court in a defamation case filed by Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.
Judge Francis Rayola on Wednesday sentenced the activist to two months in prison should he fail to pay the fine.

The cabinet secretary had sued Mwangi for defamation after the activist claimed Mutua bombed his house in October 2021.
Mwangi was last month found guilty of disobeying court orders after he was directed to apologise and retract all statements he had published about CS Mutua.
However, Mwangi refused to apologise or appear in court consequently leading to the contempt of court charges and sentencing.

The court also extended a gag order barring him from mentioning who had allegedly bombed his home until January 2024.
In his plea, Mwangi said he was a family man and had helped many Kenyans seek access to justice.
Mwangi was on Wednesday at the Machakos High Court accompanied by former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, Azimio Principal Martha Karua, and Haki Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid among other activists.
