Ruto convenes Kenya Kwanza PG meeting ahead of tabling of Finance Bill, 2024 report

The National Assembly's Finance and Planning Committee is expected to table their report on the Bill for debate by MPs, after which a vote will be taken on Thursday.

President William Ruto on Tuesday convened a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting at State House, Nairobi ahead of the tabling of the Finance Bill, 2024 report by the National Assembly's Finance and Planning Committee.

The leaders led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua arrived at State House as early as 7 am.

The Eastleigh Voice has established that the meeting, initially planned for June 7, experienced several delays. It was expected to happen on Monday but was again pushed to Tuesday.

These postponements were necessary to accommodate the parliamentary budget committee, giving them sufficient time to complete the budget process and undertake the initial reading.

The National Assembly's Finance and Planning Committee is expected to table their report on the Bill for debate by MPs, after which a vote will be taken on Thursday.

The Finance Bill, 2024, aims to expand the tax base and increase revenue collection from Kenyan citizens through new tax measures.

If the Bill passes through the House stages it will be signed into law by President Ruto.

However, the bill has faced major opposition with Kenyans planning to take to the streets to protest against the proposed Finance Bill, 2024.

A showdown looms as Kenyans vowed to push Members of the National Assembly to reject sections of Finance Bill 2024, terming it oppressive in the current economic situation.

A section of human rights activists has called on Kenyans to come out in large numbers to protest outside Parliament and be on the 'right side' of history, as they demand that the Bill be amended.
