EACC shortlists 14 candidates in race to replace CEO Twalib Mbarak

The search for the next chief executive officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is intensifying, as 14 candidates have been shortlisted from a pool of 172 applicants.

In a notice by EACC Chairperson David Oginde on Friday, these candidates comprise two women and twelve men.

From the 172 applicants, a total of 21 women and 151 men applied for the position.

The shortlisted candidates are set to undergo interviews at the Public Service Commission located at Commission House on Harambee Avenue in Nairobi.

The 14 are Stephen Masha Ngowa (Kilifi), Doreen Nkatha Muthaura (Isiolo), Jackson Kaunda Mue (Machakos), Joseph Vincent Onyango (Nairobi) and Vincent Omari Okongo (Siaya).

Others are Peter Lokol Lomulen (PWD, Turkana), Obadiah Kipkoech Keitany Baringo), John Tentemo Ole Moyaki (Kajiado), David Kiplagat Ruto Too (Uasin Gishu) and Abdi Ahmed Mohamud (Garissa).

Also in the list are Justa Wawira Mwangi (PWD, Embu), Mohamed Abdul Mmaka (Male, Lamu), Waweru Karanja (Male, Laikipia) and Paul Ndemo Maina (Kisii).

The interview schedule spans three days, from November 19 to 21, 2024.

Oginde said that each candidate must present original documents, including their national identity card, academic qualifications, and valid clearance certificates from various agencies, including the Kenya Revenue Authority and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Kenyans have been invited to submit any information regarding the shortlisted candidates before November 11, 2024.

"We invite the public to share any credible information regarding the suitability of the shortlisted candidates. The commission encourages citizens to send their insights via email or deliver them in person," Oginde stated.

The recruitment process, initiated in mid-September, was made public through advertisements in the local dailies, MyGov, and the EACC website.

Interested applicants were required to submit their applications by October 7, 2024, at 5 pm.

EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak's non-renewable six-year term is coming to an end after serving as the commission's second chief executive officer from January 2019.

Mbarak, who is a former military intelligence officer, took over from Halakhe Waqo whose six-year tenure expired on January 10, 2019.

Mbarak was sworn in on January 15, 2019, in an event presided over by former Chief Justice David Maraga.

He served as the KenGen security and integrity manager before becoming the EACC boss and was among 14 other candidates who were interviewed for the position after it was advertised on October 9, 2018.
