He said it was imperative to fast-track the completion of the project which was funded by the World Bank and implemented by the North Eastern Development Initiative(NEDI).
"The project aims to open up 24 marginalised counties across the country and it should be given a full commitment to achieve its intended purpose" said the governor.
Garissa Township MP Dekow Barrow urged the national government to address the hurdles hindering the completion of the road project.
The MP said improved road network was a top priority for the locals in Northern Kenya.
"As the local leaders, we are frustrated over the delay and it is time to address the obstacles hindering the implementation of the road project," he said.
During the meeting with the delegation led by Jane Kiringai, Senior Advisor for the International Development Partners Coordination Unit and Ibrahim Rashid, the Advisor of Regional Affairs at NEDI, the leaders emphasized the economic gains the region expected over the successful completion of the road project.
They also discussed the implementation of a two-year UNDP-funded project on promoting peace and inclusive development in the borderline counties of North Eastern Kenya.
The project seeks to strengthen cooperation and collaboration between security agencies and communities.
According to officials from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's office, the project also aims to promote peace and stability in the region.
