Gachagua: I told Ruto to admit State role in forced disappearances

By |

"I had a meeting with the president to tell him to accept that it was the State conducting abductions of Kenyans," claimed Gachagua.

In his barrage of accusations against President William Ruto's administration, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he told the Head of State to admit that the State is responsible for the abductions and torture of civilians.

Gachagua who was being interviewed exclusively by NTV on Sunday night, said he organised a meeting with Ruto to advise him that the abductions of Kenyans criticising his administration were done by State agents.

"I had a meeting with the president to tell him to accept that it was the State conducting abductions of Kenyans," claimed Gachagua.

The former Deputy President regretted that he had during their swearing-in upon being elected promised to stop spying on Kenyans and abductions yet the same is happening under Ruto's watch.

"I feel embarrassed because in Kasarani I took an oath and told the people that they are free to talk about what they want without using WhatsApp for fear of spying. Now they are listening even to WhatsApp and people have to look for other platforms," said Gachagua.

He called on the government to "stop the culture of abductions and forced disappearances" while explaining that he didn't regret supporting Ruto in the last General Election but he has learnt his lesson.

Gachagua's claim on abductions comes a day after former Limuru Member of Parliament Peter Mwathi who went missing following an alleged abduction incident while attending the disrupted funeral service in the company of Gachagua opened up on what transpired.

Speaking during a press conference in the company of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Saturday, Mwathi claimed that he was abducted by people he believed were detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

According to the former MP, it was after devising an escape route from the event after chaos broke out that he landed in the hands of the people he claimed were officers from the DCI.

"We took off and ended up on a road. My assistant asked for a taxi to drive us away from Naivasha. On the way towards the flyover, we were stopped by two Subarus,'' Mwathi said.

He added that his abductors threatened him using guns shortly after onboarding him on one of the cars, further raising questions on why they had to follow him that long.

''Mark you, all these guys were hooded, including the driver with masks and ban clavers. They told me not to look at any of their directions, after which they asked me to look at the shotguns that they had at the moment,'' he added.

The former legislator also revealed that the youth who disrupted the burial chased him as he was making his address with the sole intent of killing him.
