Somalia mourns media pioneer, Ahmed Gure

The late Ahmed started the Hiiraan website on July 1, 1999, in Ottawa, Canada.
The media fraternity in Somalia is in mourning following the death of Ahmed Gure, Founder of the Hiiraan news website.
The news site which announced his passing on Monday morning however did not reveal the cause of death.
"Inna lillahi wa ina ilayhi rajiuun. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed founder and managing editor, Captain Ahmed Gure. His visionary leadership and dedication to journalistic integrity have left an indelible mark on Hiiraan Online and Somali media," reads the statement.
The late Ahmed started the Hiiraan website on July 1, 1999, in Ottawa, Canada.
Before venturing into media, Ahmed was in the aviation field where he worked as a Captain with Somali Airlines.
After it was launched, the website was serving the growing Somali diaspora.
The website features news articles, opinions, and political commentary, maintaining its status as one of the most influential and dependable news sources in the Somali media landscape. Hiiraan Online is frequently cited in academic work, books, and international media.
In addition, the website provides external links to popular daily radio services, including BBC Somali and VOA Somali, as well as job advertisements from government agencies and international organisations.
