Kaltuma Hussein Noor from Bute in Wajir made history as the first female candidate in North Eastern to score grade A plain.

PS State Department of Culture, Arts and Heritage Ummi Bashir on Tuesday hosted the top student from the North Eastern region in last year's KCSE exams.

Kaltuma Hussein Noor from Bute in Wajir made history as the first female candidate in North Eastern to score grade A plain.

"I hosted the top student in North Eastern in last year's KCSE exams. She made history as the first in Wajir County to score a grade A plain," read part of Ummi's statement on X.

Umi shared words of encouragement, reminding Kaltuma that KCSE success is just the beginning and offered to mentor and support her to realize her dreams.

Umi said despite challenges in Wajir, such as a shortage of teachers, insecurity, and poverty, Kaltuma managed to achieve excellence. She added that Kaltuma's accomplishment showcases hard work and resilience.

Umi also hopes that the success of Kaltuma will inspire all girls, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to believe in their potential.

Kaltuma attributed her success in KCSE to hard work, determination, and support from both parents and teachers. She aspires to be a medical doctor in the future.

Her father, Hussein Nur, also expressed joy over the performance of his daughter, who became the top student in the region.

"Today is an exceptional day. I am a happy parent. My daughter made me proud," Hussein said.

His son, Mohamed Hussein, who also sat for his KCSE exam at Sabunley Secondary School, scored a B plain.

Girls' schools that performed well in North Eastern include Dertu Girls, Saka Girls, Holugho Girls in Garissa, and Haragal Girls in Wajir. NEP Girls in Garissa and Moi Girls in Mandera also claimed their lost glory with improved performance.

Boys and mixed schools celebrating in the region include Al Azar Boys with a mean score of 9 and a mean grade of B, Gedi High School (mean score of 8, and mean grade of B-), Wayam Secondary (mean score of 7.8, and a mean grade of B-), Lafey Secondary (mean score of 7.77, and a mean grade B-), and Sheikh Ali in Mandera (mean score 6.9, mean grade C+).
