TSC invites applications for junior school teachers

Teachers seeking to be recruited must be registered with TSC and should not be serving an interdiction or undergoing a disciplinary process.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the deployment of teachers to Junior schools.

Teachers serving under permanent and pensionable terms in public primary schools and who meet the requisite qualifications have been urged to apply.

TSC noted the deadline for application is on March 18, 2024. “The portal for application for deployment to Junior Schools is still vacant, and teachers who acquire the necessary qualifications are free to apply and be deployed.”

Interested candidates have been urged to visit the commission website https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke/tsc-teacher/login, to apply.

Teachers seeking to be recruited must be registered with TSC and should not be serving an interdiction or undergoing a disciplinary process.

He or she must also be employed as a primary school teacher with the Commission.

In addition, the candidate must have a Diploma in Education with a minimum grade of C+ in KCSE (or its equivalent) and a C+ in two teaching subjects currently being offered in the school curriculum (either under 8-4-4 or CBC) or two principles and one subsidiary pass at "A" Level.

Candidates with a minimum of C (plain) in the KCSE exam (or its equivalent) and who have undertaken a Diploma in Education together with a Bachelor's Degree in Education also qualify.

During the verification exercise, candidates will be required to present original copies of their degree/diploma certificate, academic transcripts, Special Needs Education (SNE) qualification (where applicable); KCSE certificate (or its equivalent) and a copy of the current payslip.

President William Ruto had on Jamhuri Day said the government will employ 56,000 teachers to bridge staffing gaps.

He said the TSC will spend Sh47 billion to hire more teachers, and the government will spend Sh24 billion on upgrading facilities for Junior Secondary Schools (JSSs).

The commitment comes amid criticism of the roll-out of JSS after sceptics cited a lack of proper infrastructure and poor staffing as some reasons that must be addressed urgently.

“Our expenditure on learning, training, and education in general is a most appropriate investment in developing the human capital necessary in our economy. Recognising this, we have increased the total allocation to our education sector by an additional Sh127 billion,” Ruto said.

Ruto said the government will hire 56,000 teachers in 2024 to fill staffing vacancies.
