No leakage in 2023 KCSE exams, KNEC says

By |

There was no leakage (early exposure) in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, according to KNEC.

The Kenya National Examination Council has revealed no leakage (early exposure) happened in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

The Council attributed the success to great collaboration and double collection of examination materials by centre managers.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu briefed President William Ruto on Monday, January 8, 2024, in the morning at Eldoret State Lodge, ahead of releasing the much-anticipated results.

"I wish to thank all the centre managers who took their time to effect the double collection policy and uphold the integrity of our examination," Machogu said.

The CS said that for the first time, the Ministry introduced a new system of collecting examination materials from the 576 distribution centres countrywide twice each day.

"This meant that in the morning, usually at 7 am daily, Centre Managers could only pick up the first paper of the day. After candidates sat the first paper of the day, the Centre Managers were then required to return to the distribution centres to pick up the second paper that candidates would sit in the afternoon," he said.

President Ruto at the same time ordered an investigation of some 3,000 candidates who registered for the exam but failed to sit for the papers.

The KCSE exam began on October 23, 2023, and ended on November 24, 2023, with 903,260 candidates sitting for the papers.
