Shujaa emerged victorious in the opening leg of the World Rugby HSBC Challenger series in Dubai

Kenya 7s Captain Vincent Onyala is confident in his team's ability to replicate their success from Dubai as they head to Montevideo, Uruguay for the second leg of the World Rugby HSBC Challenger 2024 series, set for March 8-10.

After securing victory in the opening leg in Dubai, Shujaa leads the series with 20 points, maintaining a two-point lead over Chile.

Onyala expressed his optimism, saying, "We hope to replicate the same to the second leg and we hope our fans are out there watching. We are ready for the task and we are not going to disappoint you."

He also thanked the team's supporters, highlighting their importance in keeping the team motivated, and emphasized the significance of the Challenger Series as preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics, where Shujaa aims for a podium finish.

Shujaa, placed in Pool A alongside Tonga, Georgia, and Portugal, anticipates tough competition, considering most teams were relegated from the World HSBC Challenger Series.

The team kicks off their campaign against Portugal on Friday 8 March, followed by matches against Georgia and Tonga on Saturday 9 March, depending on their performance, determining their progression in the tournament.

Shujaa's squad for Montevideo includes Vincent Onyala, Tony Omondi, Kevin Wekesa, John Okoth, Dennis Abukuse, George Ooro, Nygel Amaitsa, Samuel Asati, Ben Salem, Chrissant Ojwang, Lamec Ambetsa, and Elvis Olukusi.
