Pain at the pump as fuel prices rise in latest EPRA review

In its latest monthly review, EPRA revealed that pump prices for super petrol, diesel, and kerosene will rise by Sh8.99, Sh8.67, and Sh9.65 per litre, respectively.

Kenyans will have to dig deeper into their pockets starting July 15, 2025, after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced on Monday a significant increase in fuel prices.

In its latest monthly review, EPRA revealed that pump prices for super petrol, diesel, and kerosene will rise by Sh8.99, Sh8.67, and Sh9.65 per litre, respectively.

EPRA has attributed the upward adjustment to a sharp increase in the average landed cost of imported petroleum products.

"The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased by 6.45 per cent from $590.24 per cubic metre in May to $628.30 in June. Diesel increased by 6.27 per cent, from $580.23 to $616.59, while kerosene recorded a 6.95 per cent hike, rising from $569.00 to $608.54 per cubic metre," said EPRA in a statement.

"The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation."

The new prices will remain in force from July 15 to August 14, 2025.

With the latest adjustments, the cost of fuel has risen noticeably across the country. In Nairobi, the new prices will see super petrol retail at Sh186.31, diesel at Sh171.58 and kerosene at Sh156.58 per litre.

In Mombasa, super petrol will retail at Sh183, diesel at Sh168.29 and kerosene at Sh153.29. Kisumu residents will pay Sh186.27 for petrol, Sh171.90 for diesel, and Sh156.95 for kerosene.

In Nakuru, the revised prices are Sh185.46 for super petrol, Sh171.08 for diesel, and Sh156.12 for Kerosene, while in Eldoret, the rates will mirror those of Kisumu.
