Nairobi to host Africa Sitting Volleyball qualifiers as Kenya eyes World Cup slot

Nairobi will host the Africa Zone Sitting Volleyball Championship from July 1 to 10, with Kenya’s men’s and women’s teams eyeing a coveted spot at the 2025 World Cup in the United States.
Kenya is set to host the Africa Zone Sitting Volleyball Championship from July 1st to 10th in Nairobi, a tournament that brings together the continent’s top talent with high stakes on the line.
Both the men’s and women’s national teams will represent the host nation, looking to capitalize on home advantage in their pursuit of international qualification.
In the men’s competition, Kenya has been placed in Group A alongside Rwanda and Algeria, two teams known for their strong continental performances. The group promises tightly contested matches where tactical discipline and mental strength will be crucial. Group B consists of Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, and South Africa, setting up a diverse and competitive tournament bracket.
The women’s event features a single group of three teams, with Kenya drawn against regional powerhouses Rwanda and Nigeria. The hosts will open their campaign against Nigeria, a side renowned for its physical style of play, before taking on an in-form Rwandan team. Every match in this round-robin format will count, and the margins for error are slim.
What makes this championship even more significant is the qualification pathway it offers.
The top two teams in both the men's and women's categories will secure slots at the 2025 Sitting Volleyball World Cup in Fort Wayne, Indiana a stepping stone to the 2026 World Championships in Hangzhou, China.
With only two African slots available per gender, Kenya must not only deliver a well-organized tournament but also prove their competitive edge to advance on the global stage.
