DPP takes action after 'fake lawyer' Brian Mwenda saga
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has now directed the Inspector General of Police to investigate Brian Mwenda over allegations of impersonating a lawyer.
Brian Mwenda has been in a topic of discussion this week across social media after he went viral for purporting to be an advocate of the High Court.
Mwenda's case has roped in not only among Kenyans On X but also the Law Society of Kenya's top hierarchy, the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) but also a number of politicians including Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
The DPP on Saturday said that upon receiving an independent review from the IG of Police regarding identity theft guided by law, he will issue further directions over the matter.
"Impersonations threaten not only the legal practice but the larger access to justice. They pose a serious threat to the practice of law and are likely and are likely to have committed various offenses under Kenyan law," the DPP said.
