This setback for Kenya follows closely after losing its second bid to host a UN Climate Fund hub.
On Friday, Kenya lost its bid to host the African Union Humanitarian Agency to Uganda in an election held in Accra, Ghana, during the 45th session of the Executive Council.

According to a circular from the Ugandan Embassy in Addis Ababa, the bid evaluation results showed Kenya scoring 76.14 per cent, while Uganda topped the list with 86.66 per cent, followed by Equatorial Guinea with 76.70 per cent, and Nigeria with 74.50 per cent. The report presented by the continental body was adopted without contest.
The decision to establish a Humanitarian Agency was finalised at the 11th AU Humanitarian Symposium in Nairobi, Kenya, in November 2023, as part of the African Union's commitment to strengthen its Humanitarian Architecture.
The establishment of the African Humanitarian Agency as Africa's institutional pillar in responding to forced displacements and disasters on the continent gives effect to the centrality of African states in humanitarian action on the continent and marks a significant development in shaping Africa's Humanitarian Agenda and architecture.
This setback for Kenya follows closely after losing its second bid to host a UN Climate Fund hub.
Nairobi has previously faced criticism from other African nations for its aggressive pursuit of hosting international agencies.
