Abdulhamid Abdullahi triumphs at Sheikh Ali Sufi International Quran Competition in Nairobi

In a stirring display of devotion and talent, Abdulhamid Abdullahi from Libya emerged as the victor in the prestigious International Sheikh Ali Sufi Qira’at Awards held in Nairobi.

The triumph marks a significant achievement for Abdulhamid, showcasing his profound mastery of Quran recitation.

Abdikarim Hassan Farah from Kenya secured the second position in this highly esteemed event, which witnessed the presence of eminent Islamic scholars from various corners of the globe, led by the esteemed Sheikh Abdirashid Sheikh Ali Sufi, a Doha-based imminent Islamic scholar and the son of the late venerable imam Sheikh Ali Sufi, after whom these awards are named.

With 35 competitors from 25 countries, the competition highlighted its international allure and significance in the realm of Quranic scholarship.

The event was hosted by Sheikh Abdirizak Abdullahi Adan, popularly known as General Jir, of the Ansaaru Sunna Trust.

During the event, Sheikh Abdirashid Ali Sufi humbly urged the attending MPs to extend his heartfelt appreciation to the Kenyan government for their unwavering support.

"Kenya, a nation fostering remarkable freedom, is deserving of our prayers for continued prosperity," remarked Sheikh Abdirashid, acknowledging Kenya's enabling environment for such pivotal gatherings.

The collective sentiment among the other Ulamas resonated with gratitude towards Kenya for facilitating the visa processes and enabling the seamless participation of international students in this Quranic competition.

"Kenya's efforts in ensuring a conducive atmosphere for this revered event are commendable, an accomplishment often challenging even in certain Islamic nations," emphasized Sheikh Yusuf Ali.

"We are deeply appreciative of the warmth and hospitality extended by Kenya. This event stands as a testament to the universal appeal of Quranic scholarship and the unity it fosters among nations," remarked Sheikh Yusuf, highlighting the event's significance beyond geographical boundaries.

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan delivered the keynote address, emphasising the significant role of religious education in building the growth and development of young people.

He asserted, "Beyond spiritual benefits, religious knowledge instils moral values, shapes the character of our young people, strengthens the community, and equips them with the tools to navigate our complex world ethically and responsibly."

MP for Garissa Township, Dekow Barrow, was also in attendance.

Spanning four days, this spirited Quran competition culminated in the crowning of Abdulhamid Abdullahi as the overall champion on Saturday, earning the esteemed accolade along with a prize of USD 15,000.
