Two dead in Garissa after IED blast along Ijara–Bodhai Road
The victims were traveling on Brobox vehicle registration number KDJ 495N and were destined to Bodhai town on the fateful night.
Two people died on Sunday night after their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Al-Shabaab militants along a road linking Ijara town to Bodhai sub-county in Garissa County.
Bodhai Deputy County Commissioner Dubat Mohamed, who confirmed the incident, said the victims were traveling on a Probox vehicle, registration number KDJ 495N, and were destined to Bodhai town on the fateful night.

He said locals reported a big bhang, and security forces rushed to assess the incident, where they found the mutilated bodies and wreckage of the vehicle damaged by the IED.
"This is an unfortunate incident. We suspect they were targeting security personnel who frequently use the road for surveillance operations," he said.
The Commissioner assured members of the public that security has been heightened along the road, and a contingent of the combined General Service Unit and Special Operations Group (SOG) has been deployed to track the suspects.
He urged members of the public to cooperate with security personnel to provide information that will help the security officers' efforts to flush out the militants.
On May 6, 2025, the elite SOG killed an Al-Shabaab militant in Garissa while responding to reports by locals of militants attempting to plant IEDs along the Dadaab-Hagardere road, targeting civilians and security vehicles.
According to SOG, the four suspects were tracked, and consequently, one was killed while three others were injured during an exchange of fire.
The officers recovered a PKM machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a pistol, a communication radio, and an IED remote control.
