Ugandan security forces kill suspected female suicide bomber at Kampala market
UPDF did not reveal the identity of the female suspect or confirm whether she was carrying explosives or specify her intended target.
Ugandan forces killed a suspected female suicide bomber on Sunday at Kalerewe market in Kampala.
The Ugandan People's Defence Forces (UPDF) issued the update in a statement on X, noting that the bomb squad was on the ground in the area, possibly conducting sweeps for explosives to ensure public safety.

UPDF did not reveal the identity of the female suspect or confirm whether she was carrying explosives or specify her intended target.
However, media reports indicate that UPDF is expected to issue a more detailed statement soon with further information on how she was neutralised and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"A female suicide bomber has been killed in Kalerwe Market. The bomb squad is on the ground carrying out investigations," said UPDF on X.
The statement was accompanied by a photo showing a motorcycle standing upright, with what appeared to be a lifeless body lying beside it and a laptop bag lying nearby.
The development comes nearly three weeks after a suspected female suicide bomber and a suspected rebel died in an explosion near Munyonyo Martyrs' Shrine in Kampala during Martyrs Day celebrations on June 3.
Martyrs' Day pays homage to the 45 Christian converts who were executed on the orders of Buganda King Mwanga II, between 1885 and 1887, for refusing to denounce their faith.
Reports suggest that the two attackers had connections to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a rebel group based in Congo affiliated with the Islamic State (IS), which has claimed responsibility for several bombings in 2021.
"A UPDF counter-terrorism unit this morning intercepted and neutralised two armed terrorists in Munyonyo, an upscale city suburb. It was an intelligence-led operation, and the security services are on heightened alert to ensure the Martyrs Day celebrations proceed without disruption," said Ugandan Army Spokesperson Chris Magezi then.
"One of the terrorists, female, was a suicide bomber laden with powerful explosives."
