Technician detained for 14 days over Central Police Station CCTV tampering in Ojwang murder case
The technician is accused of disabling the surveillance system, reportedly for a payment of Sh3,000, effectively obscuring potential evidence of whether Albert Ojwang was tortured and killed inside the station.
A Kahawa court has detained a 23-year-old technician who allegedly tampered with the CCTV system at Nairobi's Central Police Station for 14 days pending investigations.
The technician was remanded alongside another suspect at Kilimani Police Station.

The technician is accused of disabling the surveillance system, reportedly for a payment of Sh3,000, effectively obscuring potential evidence of whether Albert Ojwang was tortured and killed inside the station.
The Kahawa court magistrate agreed with the application filed by officer Paul Njihia, Assistant Director Forensic attached at IPOA, that it was merited to grant 14 days instead of 21 for the officers to conclude their investigations.
In the miscellaneous application, the officer had requested that the matter be heard in camera due to the sensitive nature of the offence, saying they are investigating the gruesome murder of Ojwang.
Njihia said the mobile phones seized from the suspects are to be subjected to forensic examination.
He adds that the second respondent was arrested on June 14, 2025, at the Central Police Station area within Nairobi County and booked at Kilimani Police Station within Nairobi County.
The court heard the suspects have so far cooperated with investigators, and the DCI is seeking the Director of Public Prosecution's (DPP) guidance on how to treat them.
"Brief evidence gathered so far, the 1st Respondent and others still at-large are suspected to have, in one way or another, attempted cover-up of the brutal fatal assault of the deceased while inside the Cells at the Central Police Station", Officer Njihia told the court.
He added that the second respondent was inside the cells at the Central Police Station, where the deceased was being brutally assaulted.
The court heard that from the time the respondents were arrested, the time within which to complete investigations has not been adequate, and there is a need for an extension of time to enable completion of investigations.
The officers for 21 days within which to complete investigations, and the respondents will be detained.
The court remanded the two at Kilimani for 14 days pending investigations.
