Leaders from ASAL regions hold crisis meeting with CS Peninah Malonza over floods

Leaders from Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) regions held a crisis meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of EAC, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, and Regional Development, Hon Peninah Malonza, and PS Dr. Idris Dokota at a Nairobi hotel today.

The devastating floods have claimed dozens of lives, displaced over 20,000 people, submerged thousands of hectares of farmland, and caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.
Major Dekkow M. Barrow, the Member of Parliament for Garissa town, whose constituency is among the worst affected by the floods from the River Tana, reported a successful meeting with the Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary for ASAL.

During the meeting, they provided a comprehensive briefing on the crisis unfolding in the region due to the persistent rains.
Major Barrow mentioned that the Cabinet Secretary assured them of swift action, pledging to mobilize resources from the government and various donor agencies for immediate intervention in the affected areas.
