16-year-old Nickecoy Bramwell has set the athletics world on fire by obliterating Usain Bolt's longstanding record at the 51st Carifta Games.

Representing Calabar High School from Kingston, Jamaica, Bramwell emerged as a strong contender for the gold in the under-17 boys 400m event at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Grenada.

Despite battling through recent injuries, including a persistent hamstring problem, Bramwell exuded confidence before the highly-anticipated race.

With all eyes on him, Bramwell delivered a stellar performance, crossing the finish line with a groundbreaking time of 47.26 seconds, securing his title defence and etching his name in history.

His remarkable feat shattered Usain Bolt's championship record of 47.33 seconds, which had remained unbroken since 2002, leaving spectators in awe of the young prodigy's prowess.

Bramwell's dominance was evident as he left his competitors trailing behind. Kemron Mathlyn clinched second place with a time of 47.96 seconds, while Eagan Neely from St. Lucia secured bronze in 48.16 seconds.

Reflecting on his record-breaking achievement, Bramwell expressed his elation, stating, "It's a wonderful feeling to break the record. Since last summer, I have been eyeing the record, so it's a great feeling I could come out here and get it."

"I just took my mind off it and focused on the record," he added.

Witnessing Bramwell's maturity and talent, fans took to social media to commend his remarkable performance and predict a bright future for Jamaican athletics.
