Raila Odinga's sister Beryl Achieng dies

Achieng’s passing comes just one month after the country laid to rest the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, who died in India.

The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family is mourning the death of Beryl Achieng, the youngest sister of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Achieng’s passing comes a month after the country laid to rest the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, who died in India.

Raila’s other sister, Ruth, who also serves as the Kisumu County Woman Representative, announced the news on her Facebook page.

"While we are deeply saddened by her demise and the immense void left in our lives, we take solace in the belief that she is safe in the Lord's arms. We are thankful for the invaluable gift of the time we were privileged to share with her and for the profound impact she had on all who knew her," stated Ruth.

A source close to the family told The Eastleigh Voice that Achieng died at "a Nairobi hospital where she had been admitted”.

Achieng had been unwell for a long time and had been in and out of the hospital. She also received treatment at the same Indian facility where Raila had been admitted.

Unlike other family members who are well known for their active participation in politics, she maintained a relatively low public profile.

She, however, made significant contributions to public service in Kenya and beyond, including becoming the first Black Town Clerk of Mutare, Zimbabwe’s third-largest city.

In 2020, she was appointed Chairperson of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC).
