'Samsung Unpacked 2025' showcases Gemini Pro’s AI edge, 10-bit HDR brilliance, bigger flex screen

Samsung confirmed that Gemini Pro, Google’s most advanced multimodal AI model, will be available natively within core apps like Samsung notes, gallery, video player, internet, and calendar.

Samsung on Wednesday hosted its summer Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, unveiling its latest generation of foldables and wearables, but it was not just the hardware that stole the spotlight.

At the heart of the announcement was the deep integration of Google’s Gemini Pro AI across Samsung’s key apps, signalling a new direction where smartphones become not just responsive, but predictive.

The Korean tech giant also launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, a more affordable Flip 7 FE, and three new Galaxy Watches.

Each comes packed with new AI capabilities that aim to turn everyday tasks like summarising a call, editing video, or searching old photos into seamless, voice-guided experiences.

Gemini Pro comes to Samsung

Samsung confirmed that Gemini Pro, Google’s most advanced multimodal AI model, will be available natively within core apps like Samsung Notes, Gallery, Video Player, Internet, and Calendar.

The AI assistant will be free for the first six months on the new Galaxy Z Fold7, Flip7, and Watch8 series, offering users features like real-time summaries, voice-to-text notes, AI image editing, and intelligent recommendations. After the trial, the service will come at an undisclosed fee.

“From summarising a long article to editing a 4K video or finding that one photo where you smiled at just the right moment, your device now thinks with you,” said TM Roh, President of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience division.

Galaxy Z Fold7: Slimmer, stronger, smarter

At just 4.2mm thin when unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is Samsung’s slimmest foldable yet. It features a 6.5-inch outer display (25 per cent wider than its predecessor) and an 8-inch internal screen, both sharper and brighter for multimedia use.

But it is the internals that make it stand out:

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “Elite” processor

Up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage

A revamped 200MP main camera, with AI Super Resolution and 10-bit HDR video editing natively supported. This will allow users to shoot very high-quality videos and photos that do not lose quality when zoomed in.

Notably absent this year is the S Pen.

Samsung says the Fold7 is optimised for typing, writing, and editing without it, leaning into its AI text prediction and handwriting recognition instead.

Price: From $1,999.99 (Sh 258, 270), shipping begins July 25. Available in silver, black, blue, and mint (online exclusive).

Galaxy Z Flip7: A flex window that does more

The Flip7 gets a more functional design upgrade, featuring a larger 4.1-inch Flex Window that now acts as a full AI control panel.

Users can reply to messages, launch apps, edit photos, and even summarise meetings, all without flipping the device open.

Inside is a 6.9-inch display, powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2500, with 12GB RAM and a 4,300mAh battery, the largest ever on a Flip model.

Its 50MP wide-angle and 12MP ultrawide cameras are AI-enhanced, supporting features like background blur and light correction in real time.

Price: Starts at $1,099.99 (Sh 141,990), in blue, black, coral red, and mint (online only).

Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: A foldable for the budget-conscious

Samsung also introduced the first Fan Edition (FE) of the Flip series, a budget-friendly alternative with trimmed specs but the same folding form factor.

It sports a 6.7-inch main screen, a 3.4-inch cover display, 8GB RAM, and a 4,000mAh battery.

Its cameras, 50MP wide and 12MP ultrawide, are powered by older sensors but retain most AI features.

Price: From $899.99 (Sh116, 150), in black and white.

Smarter apps and AI that understand context

Across the board, Samsung’s new One UI 8 and Android 16 platform bring context-aware AI assistance.

Key highlights include:

Samsung notes: auto-summarises, formats text, converts voice memos to bullet points, and recommends headlines.

Gallery: AI sky generator alters skies based on mood or weather; AI super resolution enhances blurry or old photos.

Video player AI: suggests highlights, trims awkward pauses, and auto-generates captions.

Audio eraser: removes noise from voice notes, videos, or calls.

Call transcripts: summarised and searchable by topic, ideal for journalists or business users.

Game booster+: AI-enhanced frame rate balancing, lag reduction, and thermal throttling prediction for extended gaming sessions.

Most tools run entirely on-device, ensuring faster performance and better privacy, part of Samsung's broader shift toward “invisible, always-learning intelligence.”

Flex window becomes a full AI hub

The reimagined Flex Window is no longer just a notification screen.

It now acts as an AI dashboard, able to run full apps, take notes, transcribe voice memos, edit photos, and initiate smart replies without opening the phone.

This marks Samsung’s push toward multimodal interfaces, where visual cues, voice, and touch all work together without interrupting what the user is doing.

Privacy through Knox KEEP

Samsung emphasised that all AI interactions are protected through the upgraded Knox Matrix, which now includes Knox KEEP, a secure enclave for storing prompts, personalisation data, and AI-generated content.

All Gemini Pro tasks, from search to summarisation, can be processed locally, with quantum-resistant encryption securing wireless activity.

At Unpacked 2025, Samsung also detailed major upgrades to its smartwatch lineup. The Galaxy Watch Ultra, starting at $649.99, features a 47mm titanium body, 64GB of storage, and a 590mAh battery capable of lasting over 100 hours in power-saving mode. New health and fitness tools include an Antioxidant Index, sleep coaching, and a running form tracker.

All new Galaxy devices announced at Unpacked, the Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Flip FE, and Galaxy Watches, are available for preorder now and will begin shipping July 25 with Android 16 and One UI 8 preinstalled.
