Kenya Airways to restore Dreamliner service from July 22, 2025, easing international travel strain

Kilavuka confirmed that the remaining two grounded Dreamliners will be brought back into service in phases, with the second aircraft expected to return on September 25, 2025, and the third by December 19, 2025.

After several months of reduced capacity caused by grounded aircraft, Kenya Airways will restore service on one of its Dreamliners starting July 22, 2025, offering much-needed relief to its international operations.

In a notice issued on Monday, Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka announced that one of the three Dreamliners grounded since late 2024 will return to the skies, calling the move a “significant milestone” for the airline’s fleet and overall operations.

“This is a significant milestone for our fleet and operations. The return of the Dreamliner will not only alleviate the capacity constraints that had shrunk by 20 per cent due to the grounding but also enhance our capacity back to 85 per cent, ensuring a smoother travel experience for our customers,” Kilavuka said.

Kilavuka confirmed that the remaining two grounded Dreamliners will be brought back into service in phases, with the second aircraft expected to return on September 25, 2025, and the third by December 19, 2025.

Narrow-body aircraft

To further boost capacity, he revealed that Kenya Airways plans to introduce three narrow-body aircraft by the fourth quarter of 2025. This addition will provide an extra 528 passenger seats and expand the airline’s belly cargo capacity by 239 per cent.

“With safety as the cornerstone of our operations and travel demand surging during this time, we are eager to provide our passengers with additional capacity and comfort. We look forward to welcoming travellers back aboard our Dreamliner,” Kilavuka said.

Acknowledging the recent operational disruptions, Kilavuka assured customers that efforts are ongoing to resolve flight delays, cancellations and schedule changes linked to prolonged aircraft grounding.

“Despite the recent challenges, including flight delays, cancellations, and schedule changes, we want you to know that we are doing everything possible to ensure that these are being resolved quickly for your convenience and comfort,” Kilavuka said.

“We understand the impact these issues can have on your travel plans, and we are committed to addressing them promptly.”

He attributed the issues to delays in acquiring essential aircraft parts, adding that the airline is actively optimising its network to address customer concerns.

“Our commitment to your safety and well-being is unwavering, and we are dedicated to providing you with the best possible service. We appreciate your continued understanding and support during this period,” the Airline said.
