The National Transport and Highways Authority (NTSA) has declined to renew Bolt's Transport Network Company (TNC) operator license in Kenya citing numerous complaints over fees and compliance.

The National Transport and Highways Authority (NTSA) has declined to renew Bolt's Transport Network Company (TNC) operator license in Kenya. NTSA Acting Director General, Cosmas Ngeso, cited several complaints from drivers and their representatives regarding non-compliance and violations of TNC regulations. These complaints center on commission charges and an unauthorized booking fee that allegedly exceed regulatory limits.

Ngeso explained, "The most pressing concerns are in relation to commission charges and an illegal booking fee which has caused significant concern amongst the driver community." The NTSA received evidence indicating that Bolt charged commission rates higher than the regulated 18 percent.

The regulator urged Bolt to provide a clear plan of action to address the issues, including detailing commission rates, and discontinuing the unauthorized booking fee. NTSA emphasized the need for Bolt to engage with drivers and stakeholders to resolve concerns satisfactorily before license renewal can proceed.

Bolt's country manager, Linda Ndungu, maintained the company's compliance with regulations and stated their intent to renew their license, which is set to expire soon. NTSA's decision hinges on the resolution of the raised issues, ensuring compliance with regulations.
