Bolt rolls out dashboard cameras to boost driver-passenger safety, accountability

The cameras are being introduced through a partnership with Driver Technologies, which provides a smartphone app that functions as a dash cam, capturing video from inside and outside the vehicle simultaneously.

Bolt is equipping its ride-hailing vehicles with dashboard cameras that record both the cabin and the road ahead, a step aimed at resolving conflicts between drivers and passengers with clear evidence.

The cameras are being introduced through a partnership with Driver Technologies, which provides a smartphone app that functions as a dash cam, capturing video from inside and outside the vehicle simultaneously.

Drivers will receive free access to the app for the first month, followed by a 75 per cent discount, while recorded footage will be directly available to Bolt’s customer support team for verification during disputes.

Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt Rides General Manager, said drivers had long sought a way to document their trips, but the cost of traditional dash cams had been a major barrier.

“Driver partners frequently share that dash cams provide not only enhanced security and peace of mind, but also greater accountability in their trips. Unfortunately, the cost of acquiring a reliable device has often been a barrier,” Kanyankole said as quoted by the Business Daily.

“We are addressing this challenge by offering discounted access to premium dash cam features. This empowers drivers with tools that improve safety, support accurate clarification of incidents, and foster greater trust between drivers and passengers, all at a reduced cost,” he added

Bolt said the initiative is designed to reduce safety incidents by providing evidence that can be used by customer support teams, the police, and insurance companies when accidents or disputes occur.

While installing the dash cams is optional, the company said it is in the best interests of drivers, who often face situations where complaints are reduced to conflicting accounts without proof.
