Gor Mahia shines in Harambee Stars CHAN squad with 10 debutants

On Tuesday, Gor Mahia confirmed the acquisition of new talent already featuring in the Harambee Stars, including Mike Kibwage, who joined on a two-year deal from Tusker FC.

Kenya’s top-tier side Gor Mahia now boasts the lion’s share in the Harambee Stars CHAN 2024 squad, with 10 players making their tournament debut.

As the tournament hits the homestretch, the club is ramping up its preparations for the 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season after an unusual trophyless campaign last year - the first in nearly a decade.

The 21-time league champions have revamped their technical bench by bringing in Ghanaian coaches Charles Akonnor as head coach and Kobi-Mensah Bismark as his assistant.

Under their leadership, Gor Mahia has been active in the transfer market, securing key signings from rival clubs, including AFC Leopards.

On Tuesday, Gor Mahia confirmed the acquisition of new talent already featuring in the Harambee Stars, including Mike Kibwage, who joined on a two-year deal from Tusker FC.

Kibwage recently captained Harambee Stars in their narrow win over Morocco, describing the experience as an honour and a heavy responsibility.

“I have captained the national team at the junior level, but nothing felt as special as this. Leading this group of warriors in a tough match was a huge honour and source of pride,” said Kibwage.

Also joining Kibwage are AFC Leopards captain Lewis Bandi, Bandari goalkeeper Bryne Omondi and defender Siraj Mohammed - all involved in Kenya’s recent match against Morocco.

They now form Gor's backbone alongside fellow CHAN teammates Sylvester Owino, Alphonse Omija, midfielders Ben Stanley Omondi and Alpha Chris Onyango, as well as Felix Oluoch and two-time tournament scorer Austine Odhiambo.
