FKF honours former footballers and their families with free passes to CHAN games
FKF President Hussein Mohammed announced that the legends will be given accreditation to allow seamless entry into match venues, along with preferential seating arrangements.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to honouring former footballers by granting them and their families free access to all African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 matches of their choice.
Speaking during a special breakfast meeting with football legends at the Stadion Hotel on Friday, Hussein announced that the legends will be given accreditation to allow seamless entry into match venues, along with preferential seating arrangements.

“All our games, you will get preferential seating… You will get accreditation so you can attend the football games without any hassle… and you are given the due recognition that you deserve. We will do an accreditation process so you can attend any game you want to attend with your families,” he said.
He noted that the gesture is a small but meaningful way to recognise the contributions the legends have made to Kenyan football through their past performances.
“The least we can do for the legends who have given so much to Kenyan football is to ensure they are comfortable and respected,” he added.
Hussein emphasised that supporting former players is a key aspect of his leadership manifesto, which focuses on the past, present, and future of the sport.
“In our manifesto, we said we want to deal with three things: the past, present and the future. With the past, we have to look at the welfare of former footballers. We have to develop robust programmes to avoid situations we have been in in the past. I am glad to report that at the end of this year, we are going to operationalise the Hall of Fame at the federation… where we will have an archive and document the history of all footballers,” he said.
The FKF president also revealed future plans to introduce welfare programs such as a pension scheme or SACCO for retired footballers.
“We will come up with programmes to ensure that retired footballers will have some kind of a pension or a SACCO to take care of their needs in retirement. I am glad to hear that the majority are still in football… either as coaches or assistant coaches. In the future, I hope you will be physicians or nutritionists. The ecosystem of football is very wide,” he said.
The event was attended by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and brought together former football icons who have shaped Kenya’s football history.
