Government launches youth registration for 113,000 climate jobs

He explained that Climate WorX is a transitional employment and social protection programme that targets labour-intensive public works in three main areas: roads and infrastructure, environmental conservation, and housing and urban development.
The National Steering Committee of the Climate Resilience Service Programme (Climate WorX) has opened a national registration portal to engage more than 113,000 youth in public service work across all 47 counties.
The portal will be accessible for 10 days, giving young people a chance to register and take part in this government-led initiative aimed at building sustainable, climate-resilient communities.

State Department for Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga said the programme was announced by President William Ruto during the recent Madaraka Day celebrations.
He explained that Climate WorX is a transitional employment and social protection programme that targets labour-intensive public works in three main areas: roads and infrastructure, environmental conservation, and housing and urban development.
“The programme has a focus on three key areas; roads and infrastructure, environmental conservation and housing and urban development,” said Hinga.
Youth who join will earn a daily wage of Sh500, while supervisors will earn Sh550, with payments made directly through mobile money.
The youth will be organised into community clusters working in two-week shifts over six months.
The activities they will carry out include road construction, drainage development and cleaning, and building footpaths and access roads around public facilities like schools, hospitals, and markets.
Besides physical work, the recruited youth will receive structured life skills and workplace readiness training to help them move into permanent employment, education, or entrepreneurship.
The programme emphasises inclusivity, ensuring gender balance and encouraging participation from youth in informal settlements and persons with disabilities.
Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old, have a valid national ID, and register a Safaricom line with mobile money capability.
Interested youth can apply through the official registration portal at https://www.crsp.go.ke, which closes on June 15.
Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration emphasised the programme’s gender balance target, saying, “they are looking at particularly the youth and with a 50-50 balance between the two genders, that is a male and female.”
