The new leadership team was nominated and adopted by consensus of an overwhelming majority of Senior Counsel and was formally installed during the annual Senior Counsel Bar retreat held at Diamond Leisure Lodge, Diani, on Wednesday, 13th August 2025.
The incoming team succeeds Dr. Ojiambo, who led the Senior Counsel Bar since 2013.
Ojiambo had succeeded the late Mutula Kilonzo as chairperson. His leadership team also included the late Zahir Malik, the late Ken Fraser, and Omesh Kapila.
Following the passing of Malik and Fraser, and the retirement of Kapila, Philip Murgor stepped in as interim Vice-Chair and Organising Secretary.
Lucy Muthoni Kambuni later served as Secretary until her retirement, paving the way for Charles Kanjama’s appointment.
The Senior Counsel Bar, established in 2003, brings together the most distinguished lawyers in Kenya.
Its first chairperson was Amos Wako, the Attorney-General Emeritus.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo, congratulated the new team, saying their election reflects the trust and respect they command among our most senior advocates.
"The Senior Counsel Bar is a pillar of mentorship and the guardian of the highest standards of practice. At a time when we are navigating constitutional challenges and rapid technological change, this leadership could not be more timely. I have every confidence that this team will steer the Senior Bar with wisdom, integrity, and vision—strengthening both the profession and the justice it serves," she said.
