Rwanda set to launch Africa’s first self-flying taxi
The initiative is powered by EHang, a global leader in urban air mobility technology, which has joined forces with CRBC to expand its international footprint.
Rwanda is set to make history as it launches Africa’s first public flight of a self-flying electric air taxi, in partnership with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
The groundbreaking demonstration will take place at the Aviation Africa 2025 summit in Kigali from today, September 4 to 5, showcasing the continent’s first pilotless vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The initiative is powered by EHang, a global leader in urban air mobility technology, which has joined forces with CRBC to expand its international footprint.
The flight will feature the EH216-S electric air taxi, providing African regulators and industry stakeholders with a real-time case study on advanced air mobility operations.
Rwanda aims to position itself as a hub for pioneering aviation technology, building on its successful use of drones for delivery services.
The project seeks to create a new ecosystem for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), a technology designed to reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity between communities, and offer environmentally friendly transport options.
“Rwanda is actively building a future where our cities are more connected and our economy is more dynamic through innovative transport solutions,” said the Minister of Infrastructure.
“Our partnership with CRBC provides a strong foundation to bring in new technologies and expertise. By collaborating on this historic flight, we are not only showcasing the future of aviation but also demonstrating our dedication to fostering a safe, progressive regulatory environment for Advanced Air Mobility.”
HUANG Qilin, Director General of CRBC Rwanda Office, on his part, said they were proud to partner with the Government of Rwanda to support their vision of becoming a pioneer in aviation technology.

The demonstration is expected to attract investors and technology partners to Rwanda’s emerging air mobility market, signalling the start of a transformative era in African aviation.
